Ivory Tussar Silk Kantha Saree with Multicolour Village Scene Hand Embroidery
Ivory Tussar Silk Kantha Saree with Multicolour Village Scene Hand Embroidery
This ivory tussar silk saree is hand-embroidered all over in Kantha stitch. Scenes of Bengal village life, with huts, palm trees, flowering plants and birds, sit alongside scattered bud buttis, multicolour stripe bands and a densely stitched paisley-and-diamond section.
This ivory tussar silk saree tells a story in thread. Kantha sarees usually feature motifs drawn from nature, folk art and everyday rural life, such as flowers, paisleys, trees, birds and village homes. This saree is hand-embroidered with all of them from end to end.
The body is dotted with small bud buttis in orange, purple, teal, green and red. Rows of village scenes run along the saree, with domed huts, swaying palm trees, potted flowering plants, ferns and birds in flight, all stitched in bright, cheerful colours. Bold multicolour stripe bands form the border. A section of fine running stitch in soft rainbow shades fills the background around diamonds, four-petal flowers and paisley scrolls, which are left in the ivory base and outlined in black.
Every motif is stitched by hand by Kolkata artisans, so each saree is one of a kind. It's a beautiful choice for Diwali, festivals and evening events.
